Ingrown Toenails

An ingrown toenail occurs when the side of the nail pierces the skin causing it to become inflamed, painful and swollen. The big toe is most commonly affected and young children, teenagers and sporty people are more prone to them. A small spike of nail left behind after poor nail cutting is enough to cause an ingrown toenail. If you think you have an ingrown toenail you should contact us as soon as possible.

Further ways we can help:

  • We can determine whether or not the toe is infected and if you require antibiotics we’ll refer you to your GP.
  • We can try to treat the condition by removing the section of toenail that has become ingrown.
  •  If the condition is too severe or recurring we can carry our minor surgery on the nail to permanently remove the offending part.
  • We can advise you on correct nail cutting techniques and other ways to prevent ingrown toenails.
