Verrucae

Verrucae are warts that can appear anywhere on the hands and feet. They’re caused by a virus that infects the upper layers of the skin and are very contagious. Verrucae can all look very different and can be hard to diagnose. Often they appear like a small patch of raised, hardened skin, with the appearance of a 'cauliflower'. They’re usually circular in shape with black dots in the centre (these are tiny blood vessels that can bleed when the dead skin at the surface of the verruca is removed). Verrucas are only painful if they’re on weight-bearing areas such as the ball of your foot and children are most commonly affected. Chiropodists are extremely experienced in dealing with verrucae, so we recommend that you book an appointment with us for the most effective treatment.

Further ways we can help:

  • Verrucae can be difficult to treat. Although many treatments claim to remove them quickly, all verrucas are different and the smallest wart can be the most persistent. We can tailor the treatment to deal with your verruca in the most effective way.
  • We can advise you on how to avoid catching verrucae.
